What is Grand Millennial style?
It’s a blend of classic, traditional, and modern decor pieces. It typically includes: patterns (stripes, florals, toile), Antique or vintage-inspired furniture, embroidered linens, and upholstered furniture. Most have a color palette of green, blue and pink. It overall feels very soft and feminine. Some visual examples would be the home from Father of the Bride, Home Alone and any Nancy Meyers movie.
These homes are so full of charm and bring in that warm and inviting feeling into your home. Often reminding you of times past in your mother’s or grandmother’s home. This home decor style is sometimes called Granny Chic. Who doesn’t love grandmas?!
Since we’ll be covering the bedroom today, we want the decor and space to feel like a cozy, elegant retreat. It should feel warm, inviting and relaxing. Most people spend a lot of time in their bedroom, so it should feel like a place you feel relaxed in. This must-have list will help you create that timeless, collected look.

1. Vintage or Antique Furniture
Vintage or antique furniture is a hallmark of this style. It adds so much character and charm to your room. Some great pieces to start with are beds (look for four posters, solid wood and upholstered), dressers (french provincial or colonial), mirrors, and chairs (cane or upholstered).
You can normally find quality vintage furniture at thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, estate sales, and antique malls (this one can be pricey). On Facebook Marketplace the best search terms are: cottage-core, colonial, french provincial, victorian, mahogany, brass, cane, bamboo, ball and claw, federal style, Hepplewhite, Chippendale style, and rattan.

2. Classic, Feminine Bedding
In a grand millennial bedroom, the linens are usually white, scalloped, or have green or blue piping. Sometimes, they will be floral or have a monogram.
It is key to layer for that cozy, lived-in texture. You can layer with quilts, matelassé coverlets, and throw blankets. A matelassé coverlet is similar to not have the stitching running through the quilt but does out.
Some of my favorite brands for bedding are Serena & Lily, Laura Ashley, Kassatex, Hill House Home, and Crown & Ivy. You can also find great finds at Home Goods and Dillard’s.
3. Floral & Chinoiserie Wallpaper or Fabrics
Using different patterns draws interest and adds personality to a space. You can incorporate this with wallpaper, upholstery, bedding, and curtains. Some go-to patterns are stripes, chinoiserie, toile, chintz and florals.
Toile, Chinoiserie, and Chintz, what’s the difference? While they look very similar, but all have different origins and details. Toile originates from France and usually has some sort of scene. Chinoiserie originates from China and is typically seen on ginger jars. Chintz comes from India, and is more floral.

4. Skirted or Pleated Accents
Using skirted or pleated accents adds so much charm and character! It’s a really easy way to incorporate the style using bed skirts, table skirts, lamp shades, chair covers, and ottomans.
Some great brands are One Kings Lane, Wayfair, Serena & Lily.
5. Elegant Lighting
Warm, vintage-inspired lighting creates a cozy atmosphere. Choosing lamps in a color scheme like this one or a patterned one like this adds a little grand millennial flair to any nightstand, even if it’s not vintage.
You can find the grandmillennial lighting at thrift stores, antique malls, Ballard Designs, and Serena & Lily.
You can also DIY what you already have by painting the base and adding a pleated or scalloped lampshade.
6. Timeless Artwork & Wall Decor
Add personality to your room with wall decor and artwork. Some key pieces are botanical prints, oil paintings, and needlepoint pieces.
You can find these new or thrifted. You can also mix and match a store-bought print and a thrifted frame. You can find the prints on Etsy for a budget-friendly upgrade. For artwork check local thrift stores, antique malls, eBay, and Facebook marketplace.

7. Blue & White Porcelain Accents
Blue and white decor is the signature of the grandmillennial style. You can incorporate this in many different places. You can add a ginger jar vase, a blue pillow or pillow cover, dresser styling, and even rugs.
You can collect blue and white pieces so many ways including new and thrifted. I’ve mentioned my favorite ways to find budget friendly options already. You can find them new on Amazon, Wayfair, Tuckernuck, and Serena & Lily.
8. Cozy & Collected Accessories
Don’t forget the little details like embroidered linens, coffee table books, floral-scented candles, and faux flowers.
Add a small silver tray or crystal dish to your dresser or nightstand jewelry. Pair it with a small faux floral arrangement and candle. Again layering plays a key role in the live-in, cozy feel.
Grandmillennial interior design is all about collected and timeless with adding modern pieces. You don’t have to go buy all new; thrifting is strongly encouraged, and it adds to the collected feel of your space. For more check out our Ultimate Guide to a Timeless Home.
